Wilbur G German

Wilbur G. "Wip" German, 83 of 301 N. Eighth St., Lehighton, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, at The Summit Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lehighton. He was the husband of Evelyn T. (Deutsch) German. They were married for 62 years last Oct. 5.

He was last employed as a maintenance supervisor for the Eastern Steel Barrel Corporation, Piscataway, N.J., retiring in 1989 after 33 years of service.

Born in Weissport, he was a son of the late Charles and Wilhelmina Sophia (Sibbach) German.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of seaman second class. German was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 314, both of Lehighton, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Somervile, N.J., and V.F.W. Post 2290 Manville, N.J.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, squaredancing and traveling and camping with the "Bounders" and the "Good Sam" Camping clubs.

Surviving in addition to his widow are a daughter Geraldine, wife of Drew Porter of Bloomsburg; a son Dennis, and his wife, Marilyn, of West Caldwell, N.J.; a sister, Mae Fritzinger of Somerville, N.J.; a brother Elmer, and his wife, Mildred, of Lehighton; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Wernett, Ruth Mertz, Emma Ahner and Elizabeth Whiteman; and two brothers, Theodore and Donald.

Service: Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, with the Rev. Robert A. vonFrisch officiating. Interment, Gnaden Huetten Cemetery, Lehighton.
